Long-Term Review of the Fenix LD20 and LD01
When it comes to flashlights my focus is usually on EDC, function, and mostly survival/emergency preparedness. But, one thing I rarely hear about is, “long-term use and durability”. I thought I would take a moment to talk about the Classic Fenix LD20 and Fenix LD01. I bought these flashlights in 2011, I’ve had them for 7yrs. As a sidenote: The newer LD22 has replaced the LD20, and the LD01 has been updated to the LD02; both of which I am contemplating buying. They are nice upgrades to the older models, more lumens and functionality.
Since, I have the philosophy: “Two is one, and One is none”. I have carried BOTH the LD20 and LD01 with me on a daily basis for the last 7yrs. First thing I put in my pockets and clip to my belt, in morning and last thing on my night-stand when going to bed. They have not failed me once. Fenix makes both of these lights with aircraft-grade aluminum (hard-anodized). After 7yrs of daily carry and use, the flashlights looks a little rough (though honestly the finish has held up well, considering). Even if they don’t look pristine as they did when new; they STILL function as if they were new. Both of these lights have been dropped, stored in pocket/pouches with keys, multi-tools and knives banging against them. I have been waiting for the LED to die or for the circuitry to fail, so I can buy the upgraded models (LD22 and LD02). However, these older lights just keep going. They really are a testament to Fenix’s ability to build a quality light with quality components. …At this rate, I may just end up buying the new model and gifting these classics to my kids!
Take care, Amol (TechLeatherCraft)
